The gates of Hell once again spew forth its demons. As a lone Marine, it is your duty to rid those pesky Zealots of their pitiful lives and make Earth safe once more. This is a reboot of the franchise, which has been in development limbo for a while. Now, with the light shining at the end of the tunnel, iD Software and Bethesda are set to bring us something special. Maybe the single player and SnapMap will be a return to form but what about the multiplayer portion?
The task to create Doom’s multiplayer portion has been handed over to Certain Affinity, who have a strong pedigree in creating multiplayer content for the likes of Halo, Call of Duty and Left 4 Dead. Will it stand out from the crowd or will it get lost in the sea of other modern arena shooters with whiz-bang mandatory leveling and paint by numbers character customisation? Time will tell.
The Open Beta features two maps, two game modes, one playable demon, and seven weapons, along with never-before-seen armour sets, taunts and hack modules. The full game is set to release on 13th May. Bring it.
